Arthritis, producing intense pain on motion due to damaged cartilage, affects approximately 50% of all older adults and is a leading cause of disability. SaluMedica is using Salubria™ biomaterial to develop an articular cartilage implant that may be molded into a shape to replace the damaged cartilage. This cartilage implant may serve as an alternative to a metal total knee replacement. We are also developing a second- generation Salubria™ device to be delivered arthroscopically.
